Father/Son

I melt...

For Father's Day this year, Gerad wanted to play family sports, so we loaded up and went to one of the local grade schools to use their basketball courts.  We played boys against girls, and even though us girls were pulling out all the stops (and, eh hem...cheating...a little...but only when necessary), the boys WON!  There were several trick moves on the boys' parts too, like daddy swooping Owen up so he could dunk.  :)

When it was all said and done, the boys won.  When Owen started celebrating...pumping his fists in the air, screaming, "OH YEAH!!!," Gerad very discretely told him, "Now we don't rub it in...instead, go tell the girls they played a good game."  Owen immediately changed his tune and came over and told all of us we had a good game.

Next sport up was soccer on an adjoining field.  Boys against girls again.  As we were setting up, we couldn't remember who got to go first.  Finally Natalie spouts the old playground rule, "Boys get to go first because they're the winners."

Everyone agreed.  This sounds fair, but Gerad leans down and quietly tells Owen that they should let the girls go first, because girls should always go first.  :)

Each time, Owen was more than happy to follow his dad.  In fact, he idolizes his dad. And when it comes to Owen's role model...I have 100% peace.
